I’m actually living my Valentine fantasy in this picture, which is quite weird, only because I struggled with this a lot.
I’m not sure how many of you might suffer with dysphoria, but I absolutely didn’t feel like myself in this look until AFTER I had edited the picture, which made standing on my platform like this feel really odd to me. I know it’s weird to associate dysphoria with an avatar when you can literally be whatever you want in SL, but when you’re me, and often don’t know who you want to be today, tomorrow or the next day, it’s actually quite a regular occurrence. I’m in no way associating with RL dysphoria. I’m sure what I experience is very low level in comparison, and I have nothing but compassion for those dealing with the implications of having such a debilitating feeling within their own unrecognizable bodies, where SL might be the only place they can really feel like themselves.
All that said, this is actually one of my favourite upper body shots I’ve done for a while. Sometimes it’s worth pushing through the discomfort, to find a new way to love yourself – and that goes for all of you on your journeys too. Follow your hearts, Spoonies, and if you’re struggling to find yourself just rest for a moment safe in the fact that you ARE in there, and worthy of love in all versions of yourself. ❤
