It’s time for a Pixie Appreciation Post, mostly because if I don’t, she’ll only bully me again until I do! (I’m totally kidding, it’s time!)
In May this year, she traveled to me from UP NORF.
Although I was secretly kinda terrified that I wouldn’t live up to any of her expectations, she accepted me as is, and it without a doubt made our friendship stronger.
It also made ME stronger.
For the week she was here, she gave me back a little thing that I’d lost, and that was my zest. It sounds contrite, but before her arrival I was just existing. I was getting by, hoping I’d just stumble upon my zest somewhere in my house, under the rug, behind the curtain, or perhaps somewhere stashed away in my kitchen cupboards.
Needless to say, it wasn’t there.
Daily, we did a thing when she was here. It wasn’t necessarily a big thing. Some days it was just a walk, or a tea party inside. Other days it was trips to the shops or further afield toward London, we even got really uncomfortable at a live show that involved half naked men. I’m so grateful she threw herself at the men, I really wasn’t ready for it!
Every time I left my home, whether with her, or to get her, or to prepare for her arrival, I gained a little of that zest back. Along with that zest came a bundle of my confidence too.
I have SO much to thank my lil Pixie for. SO much I don’t think she will ever entirely comprehend, and as much as I would absolutely love to be able to make her feel it all, it’s literally impossible (even for me!) to explain how much her first step meant to me.
Since that first step, I’ve become a much better human, I’ve become better at accepting and healing things that have been an issue for decades.
I hope to repay her, just a little, when I visit her next. Maybe that’s my first step toward helping her with her zest, too. Heaven knows she’s the most deserving person I know.
